The delivery terms are primarily intended for use in international contracts for the sale and delivery of engineering products in general. The main changes to S2022 include an adapted definition of gross negligence, a special clause on intellectual property, a simplification of payment terms and a clarification of liability for infringement of intellectual property rights.

There is a special annex that should be used in contracts where German law applies. Under S 2022, the law of the supplier's country applies unless otherwise agreed. However, the S 2012 are not "withdrawn" in the sense that their application would contradict applicable law.
